4376cf2609 Add differential fuzzing against V8 (#3264)
* Add differential fuzzing against V8

This commit adds a differential fuzzing target to Wasmtime along the
lines of the wasmi and spec interpreters we already have, but with V8
instead. The intention here is that wasmi is unlikely to receive updates
over time (e.g. for SIMD), and the spec interpreter is not suitable for
fuzzing against in general due to its performance characteristics. The
hope is that V8 is indeed appropriate to fuzz against because it's
naturally receiving updates and it also is expected to have good
performance.

Here the `rusty_v8` crate is used which provides bindings to V8 as well
as precompiled binaries by default. This matches exactly the use case we
need and at least for now I think the `rusty_v8` crate will be
maintained by the Deno folks as they continue to develop it. If it
becomes an issue though maintaining we can evaluate other options to
have differential fuzzing against.

For now this commit enables the SIMD and bulk-memory feature of
fuzz-target-generation which should enable them to get
differentially-fuzzed with V8 in addition to the compilation fuzzing
we're already getting.

* Use weak linkage for GDB jit helpers

This should help us deduplicate our symbol with other JIT runtimes, if
any. For now this leans on some C helpers to define the weak linkage
since Rust doesn't support that on stable yet.

* Don't use rusty_v8 on MinGW

They don't have precompiled libraries there.

This then also enables floating point executing in wasmi in addition to
the spec interpreter. With NaN canonicalization at the wasm level this
means that we should be producing deterministic results between Wasmtime
and these alternative implementations.

651a321f1a fuzz: add differential_spec fuzzing target
This new target compares the outputs of executing the first exported
function of a Wasm module in Wasmtime and in the official Wasm spec
interpreter (using the `wasm-spec-interpreter` crate). This is an
initial step towards more fully-featured fuzzing (e.g. compare memories,
add `v128`, add references, add other proposals, etc.)

bb85366a3b Enable simd fuzzing on oss-fuzz (#3152)
* Enable simd fuzzing on oss-fuzz

This commit generally enables the simd feature while fuzzing, which
should affect almost all fuzzers. For fuzzers that just throw random
data at the wall and see what sticks, this means that they'll now be
able to throw simd-shaped data at the wall and have it stick. For
wasm-smith-based fuzzers this commit also updates wasm-smith to 0.6.0
which allows further configuring the `SwarmConfig` after generation,
notably allowing `instantiate-swarm` to generate modules using simd
using `wasm-smith`. This should much more reliably feed simd-related
things into the fuzzers.

Finally, this commit updates wasmtime to avoid usage of the general
`wasm_smith::Module` generator to instead use a Wasmtime-specific custom
default configuration which enables various features we have
implemented.

* Allow dummy table creation to fail

Tables might creation for imports may exceed the memory limit on the
store, which we'll want to gracefully recover from and not fail the
fuzzers.

cb48ea406e Switch default to new x86_64 backend.
This PR switches the default backend on x86, for both the
`cranelift-codegen` crate and for Wasmtime, to the new
(`MachInst`-style, `VCode`-based) backend that has been under
development and testing for some time now.

The old backend is still available by default in builds with the
`old-x86-backend` feature, or by requesting `BackendVariant::Legacy`
from the appropriate APIs.

As part of that switch, it adds some more runtime-configurable plumbing
to the testing infrastructure so that tests can be run using the
appropriate backend. `clif-util test` is now capable of parsing a
backend selector option from filetests and instantiating the correct
backend.

CI has been updated so that the old x86 backend continues to run its
tests, just as we used to run the new x64 backend separately.

At some point, we will remove the old x86 backend entirely, once we are
satisfied that the new backend has not caused any unforeseen issues and
we do not need to revert.

6e6713ae0b cranelift: add support for the Mac aarch64 calling convention
This bumps target-lexicon and adds support for the AppleAarch64 calling
convention. Specifically for WebAssembly support, we only have to worry
about the new stack slots convention. Stack slots don't need to be at
least 8-bytes, they can be as small as the data type's size. For
instance, if we need stack slots for (i32, i32), they can be located at
offsets (+0, +4). Note that they still need to be properly aligned on
the data type they're containing, though, so if we need stack slots for
(i32, i64), we can't start the i64 slot at the +4 offset (it must start
at the +8 offset).

Added one test that was failing on the Mac M1, as well as other tests
stressing different yet similar situations.

c361485c9e fuzz: Remove peepmatic fuzz targets
There are occasional timeouts in type checking where Z3 hangs. This is a known
issue[0] with the implementation of type checking in Peepmatic, and getting
these timeouts in the fuzzers is just annoying and adds noise to our fuzzing
results. When we fix [0] we can reintroduce these fuzz targets.

703762c49e Update support for the module linking proposal
This commit updates the various tooling used by wasmtime which has new
updates to the module linking proposal. This is done primarily to sync
with WebAssembly/module-linking#26. The main change implemented here is
that wasmtime now supports creating instances from a set of values, nott
just from instantiating a module. Additionally subtyping handling of
modules with respect to imports is now properly handled by desugaring
two-level imports to imports of instances.

A number of small refactorings are included here as well, but most of
them are in accordance with the changes to `wasmparser` and the updated
binary format for module linking.

25000afe69 Enable fuzzing the module linking implementation
This commit updates all the wasm-tools crates that we use and enables
fuzzing of the module linking proposal in our various fuzz targets. This
also refactors some of the dummy value generation logic to not be
fallible and to always succeed, the thinking being that we don't want to
accidentally hide errors while fuzzing. Additionally instantiation is
only allowed to fail with a `Trap`, other failure reasons are unwrapped.

bbdea06e2d Add differential fuzzing against wasmi (a Wasm interpreter).
This PR adds a new fuzz target, `differential_wasmi`, that runs a
Cranelift-based Wasm backend alongside a simple third-party Wasm
interpeter crate (`wasmi`).  The fuzzing runs the first function in a
given module to completion on each side, and then diffs the return value
and linear memory contents.

This strategy should provide end-to-end coverage including both the Wasm
translation to CLIF (which has seen some subtle and scary bugs at
times), the lowering from CLIF to VCode, the register allocation, and
the final code emission.

This PR also adds a feature `experimental_x64` to the fuzzing crate (and
the chain of dependencies down to `cranelift-codegen`) so that we can
fuzz the new x86-64 backend as well as the current one.

b73b831892 Replace binaryen -ttf based fuzzing with wasm-smith (#2336)
This commit removes the binaryen support for fuzzing from wasmtime,
instead switching over to `wasm-smith`. In general it's great to have
what fuzzing we can, but our binaryen support suffers from a few issues:

* The Rust crate, binaryen-sys, seems largely unmaintained at this
  point. While we could likely take ownership and/or send PRs to update
  the crate it seems like the maintenance is largely on us at this point.

* Currently the binaryen-sys crate doesn't support fuzzing anything
  beyond MVP wasm, but we're interested at least in features like bulk
  memory and reference types. Additionally we'll also be interested in
  features like module-linking. New features would require either
  implementation work in binaryen or the binaryen-sys crate to support.

* We have 4-5 fuzz-bugs right now related to timeouts simply in
  generating a module for wasmtime to fuzz. One investigation along
  these lines in the past revealed a bug in binaryen itself, and in any
  case these bugs would otherwise need to get investigated, reported,
  and possibly fixed ourselves in upstream binaryen.

Overall I'm not sure at this point if maintaining binaryen fuzzing is
worth it with the advent of `wasm-smith` which has similar goals for
wasm module generation, but is much more readily maintainable on our
end.

Additonally in this commit I've added a fuzzer for wasm-smith's
`SwarmConfig`-based fuzzer which should expand the coverage of tested
modules.

38428e1fbb Expand modules instantiated in instantiate-wasm-smith
This commit uses the new `MaybeInvalidModule` type in `wasm-smith` to
try to explore more points in the fuzz target space in the
`instantiate-maybe-invalid` fuzz target. The goal here is to use the raw
fuzz input as the body of a function to stress the validator/decoder a
bit more, and try to get inputs we might not otherwise generate.

98e899f6b3 fuzz: Add a fuzz target for table.{get,set} operations
This new fuzz target exercises sequences of `table.get`s, `table.set`s, and
GCs.

It already found a couple bugs:

* Some leaks due to ref count cycles between stores and host-defined functions
  closing over those stores.

* If there are no live references for a PC, Cranelift can avoid emiting an
  associated stack map. This was running afoul of a debug assertion.

5c39b74eb8 Make the fuzzing CI job faster (#1727)
* CI: Only build fuzz targets, don't run them over the corpora

We've only ever caught a single potential regression by running the fuzz targets
over a sample of their corpora. However, this is also our slowest CI
job. Running the fuzz targets over their corpora simply isn't paying for itself.

Instead, just ensure that we can build the fuzz targets with `cargo fuzz` and
all of the libFuzzer and sanitizer instrumentation that it enables. This will
ensure that we don't break the fuzz targets, and we leave finding regressions in
the fuzz corpora to oss-fuzz.

* fuzz: feature gate peepmatic's fuzz targets

This makes it so that the CI's fuzz target-building job doesn't build peepmatic,
and transitively Z3.

reasons, because we once called it `wasmtime-api` crate. This creates a
stumbling block for new contributors.

* Add a spec test fuzzer for Config

This commit adds a new fuzzer which is intended to run on oss-fuzz. This
fuzzer creates and arbitrary `Config` which *should* pass spec tests and
then asserts that it does so. The goal here is to weed out any
accidental bugs in global configuration which could cause
non-spec-compliant behavior.

b0cf8c021f Turn off binaryen in fuzzing by default
... but turn it back on in CI by default. The `binaryen-sys` crate
builds binaryen from source, which is a drag on CI for a few reasons:

* This is quite large and takes a good deal of time to build
* The debug build directory for binaryen is 4GB large

In an effort to both save time and disk space on the builders this
commit adds a `binaryen` feature to the `wasmtime-fuzz` crate. This
feature is enabled specifically when running the fuzzers on CI, but it
is disabled during the typical `cargo test --all` command. This means
that the test builders should save an extra 4G of space and be a bit
speedier now that they don't build a giant wad of C++.

We'll need to update the OSS-fuzz integration to enable the `binaryen`
feature when executing `cargo fuzz build`, and I'll do that once this
gets closer to landing.

19d8ff2bf5 Remove reader_parse_test/translate_module fuzz targets (#1212)
This commit removes the two fuzz targets that we imported from cranelift
when cranelift merged in. These have both uncovered a few issues in the
fuzz targets themselves, for example:

* `translate_module` - this doesn't verify the wasm is valid a head of
  time and cranelift is known to panic on translating invalid wasm
  modules. We also already do a lot of fuzzing of translation of wasm
  modules, so this isn't necessarily buying us anything over what we're
  already fuzzing.

* `reader_parse_test` - discovered in #1205 we already found some "bugs"
  in this but it may not necessarily rise to the level of "needs to be
  run on oss-fuzz for us to find more bugs" yet. It looks like this is
  still somewhat internal so we can re-enable when we've got folks to
  fix the fuzz bugs coming in.

d142a39113 Tweak some API doc generation (#772)
* Build docs with the nightly toolchain so [foo::bar] links work by
  default. This is a relatively new feature of rustdoc and I thought it
  was stabilized at this point but apparently it's not!

* Tweak some API docs on `wasmtime::Strategy`

* Use `--all` to build all local crate documentation instead of trying
  to list the number of local crates

* Tweak some documentation configuration to avoid warnings generated by
  Cargo.

7474633cca Remove usage of CompilationStrategy from Config (#764)
* Remove usage of `CompilationStrategy` from `Config`

This commit removes the public API usage of the internal
`CompilationStrategy` enumeration from the `Config` type in the
`wasmtime` crate. To do this the `enum` was copied locally into the
crate and renamed `Strategy`. The high-level description of this change
is:

* The `Config::strategy` method now takes a locally-defined `Strategy`
  enumeration instead of an internal type.

* The contents of `Strategy` are always the same, not relying on Cargo
  features to indicate which variants are present. This avoids
  unnecessary downstream `#[cfg]`.

* A `lightbeam` feature was added to the `wasmtime` crate itself to
  lightbeam compilation support.

* The `Config::strategy` method is now fallible. It returns a runtime
  error if support for the selected strategy wasn't compiled in.

* The `Strategy` enum is listed as `#[non_exhaustive]` so we can safely
  add variants over time to it.

This reduces the public crate dependencies of the `wasmtime` crate
itself, removing the need to reach into internal crates even more!

0cde30197d fuzzing: Add initial API call fuzzer
We only generate *valid* sequences of API calls. To do this, we keep track of
what objects we've already created in earlier API calls via the `Scope` struct.

To generate even-more-pathological sequences of API calls, we use [swarm
testing]:

> In swarm testing, the usual practice of potentially including all features
> in every test case is abandoned. Rather, a large “swarm” of randomly
> generated configurations, each of which omits some features, is used, with
> configurations receiving equal resources.

There are more public APIs and instance introspection APIs that we have than
this fuzzer exercises right now. We will need a better generator of valid Wasm
than `wasm-opt -ttf` to really get the most out of those currently-unexercised
APIs, since the Wasm modules generated by `wasm-opt -ttf` don't import and
export a huge variety of things.
